Dar es Salaam, Nov 1. (Xinhua/GNA) – China’s National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) on Sunday held a two-day training programme for Tanzanian media professionals to strengthen digital skills, improve content production, and explore new business opportunities.
The programme, named “The China-Africa AI Media Training,” was held in Dar es Salaam, a commercial city in Tanzania, bringing together around 30 professionals from media production, programming, creative, digital, and technical departments.
Chen Mingjian, Chinese ambassador to Tanzania, said AI was rapidly transforming the media industry through applications such as automated translation, proofreading, text-to-video generation, digital presenters and virtual studios.
She said China was committed to helping African countries strengthen digital capabilities and bridge the digital divide, emphasising that AI development should be inclusive and benefit all.
Yang Yong, deputy director-general of the Department of International Cooperation of the NRTA, said the initiative aimed to strengthen technical capabilities, nurture talent and promote joint storytelling between China and Africa.
The training focuses on practical applications of generative AI in media production, tourism promotion, cultural storytelling, television commercials and content commercialisation, he noted, adding that the training adopts a “train-the-trainer” approach to develop local trainers and bring AI skills to more African media professionals.
Sheba Kussaga, director of business development at Tanzania-based media organisation Clouds Media Group, said the training would enhance employees’ efficiency, productivity and competitiveness.
Mbarouk Khan, a radio presenter and digital content creator attending the training, said AI skills would help him produce higher-quality social media content, improve productivity and potentially increase his income.
He called for more training opportunities to help young Tanzanian media professionals adapt to emerging technologies.
