Kasseh, Oct. 29, GNA – Nene Korle V, the Wetsoyi of the Terkperbiawe Clan of the Ada Traditional Area, has called on clan members to unite and work towards the development of the clan and the Ada State.
He cautioned that attempts by any faction to install another Wetsoyi could lead to further divisions and undermine the clan’s development, warning that such action could also amount to contempt of court orders.
Speaking at a press conference at Kasseh, he said disputes over the divisional chief’s stool had been addressed through the appropriate legal channels over the years, with court judgements recognising him as the rightful heir to the stool.
He added that despite securing three separate judgements in his favour, he had refrained from celebrating the outcomes, considering them victories for the entire Terkperbiawe Clan rather than personal achievements.
“I had three separate judgements declaring me as the legitimate heir to the stool, but a faction of clan members, who have reasons best known to them, are allegedly going round to convince other clan members otherwise,” he said.
Nene Korle said the prolonged divisions were causing the clan to lose its properties and relevance, stressing the need for members to resolve their differences and focus on development.
He said he had convened several meetings involving the clan’s three sections and 13 gates to discuss the way forward, but some members had consistently failed to attend.
He described the repeated absence of some members as an obstacle to efforts to unite the clan and build consensus on its future.
Nene Korle also addressed allegations that he was installed by Dr Daniel Mackorley, a businessman who owned Electrochem Ghana Limited, to advance the company’s interests in the Songor Lagoon issue.
He denied the allegations, insisting that the Wetsoyi position was a traditional clan institution whose occupant must be selected and installed through the appropriate customary processes.
“The Wetsoyi position is for a clan, and a particular section of the clan is responsible for installing the rightful person to occupy it. No businessman or anyone else can independently or privately install a person and impose him on the clan, nor can they ensure his acceptance by the Traditional Council,” he said.
He described the allegations as baseless, saying that they were intended to influence clan members and delay efforts towards unity and development.
Nene Korle stated that his priority was to restore unity among the clan’s sections and gates through continued engagement and inclusive discussions.
He urged clan members and heads of the various gates to remain calm, unite and work together for the progress of the Terkperbiawe Clan and the peaceful development of the Ada Traditional Area.
He also appealed to media practitioners to verify claims made by individuals associated with the Ada Traditional Council or clan leadership before publishing them.
