Kintampo (Bono East), Oct. 4, GNA – The Kintampo Municipal Assembly in the Bono East Region at the weekend observed the National Sanitation Day with a six-hour clean-up exercise across parts of the Municipality.
Heads of decentralised departments and agencies, personnel of the security services and members of the communities participated in the exercise, cleaning the streets of Kintampo Township and the Kyeremankrom and Sawaba markets.
They cleared choked gutters and removed plastic waste, discarded containers and other refuse from the surroundings.
Mr Isaac Donkor, Kintampo Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said the Government was committed to improving sanitation across the country and had prioritised proper waste management to help prevent outbreaks of communicable diseases.
Miss Wuni Fatima, Assistant Municipal Environmental Health Director at the Kintampo Municipal Assembly, however, expressed disappointment at the low turnout of traders and market women for the exercise.
Chief Superintendent Ofori Boateng, the Kintampo Municipal Police Commander, lauded the exercise and commended the participants for their voluntary spirit.
He expressed the hope that they would sustain the spirit to help advance the development of the Municipality.
