Akropong-Akuapem (E/R), Oct. 14, GNA – Community Information Centre (CIC) operators in the Akuapem North Municipality have been warned against advertising unauthorised traditional medicines at their centres.
The caution was given during an orientation programme organised for 38 CIC operators to guide them on the proper dissemination of information within their communities.
Mr Samuel Adjinbaruk, Deputy Director of the Akuapem North Municipal Assembly, who issued the warning, commended the operators for their contributions to information dissemination across the municipality.
He described their role in local governance as crucial and encouraged them to continue supporting effective information delivery to residents.
Mr Adjinbaruk said although the centres were privately owned businesses, they should support the publicity of government programmes, projects and activities.
He also educated the operators on the need to obtain the required certification and approval from the relevant regulatory authorities before advertising traditional medicines and related products.
Mr Ibrahim Yussif, an Assistant Director at the Assembly, urged the operators to exercise professionalism in their work and daily activities.
He advised them to familiarise themselves with the relevant rules and regulations governing their operations to avoid sanctions and other violations.
Mr Rahman Amankwah, the Assembly’s Revenue Superintendent, explained the Assembly’s fee-fixing resolution and urged the operators to educate residents on their tax obligations and the timely renewal of their Business Operating Permits (BOPs).
He said such efforts would contribute to increasing the Assembly’s Internally Generated Fund (IGF) for local development.
The orientation formed part of efforts to strengthen the operations of CICs, promote responsible information dissemination, and support community and local development in the municipality.
