Berekum (Bono), Oct. 14, GNA – The Berekum branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has commended the Berekum Municipal Assembly for decongesting the main Berekum lorry station and improving traffic flow within the area.

Nana Agyei Asamoa II, Berekum Branch Chairman of the GPRTU, also lauded the Assembly for rescinding its decision to relocate the station to the Berekum Thursday Market.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, he called on the Assembly to enforce its bye-laws to improve sanitation and maintain order at the lorry station.

Nana Asamoa II noted that the decongestion exercise had created additional space for commercial drivers and passengers, thereby facilitating smooth vehicular movement, parking and loading activities.

He said the intervention had improved accessibility at the station and reduced congestion, to the benefit of both transport operators and commuters.

Nana Asamoa II cautioned commercial drivers against parking and loading passengers at unauthorised locations, stressing the need for discipline to sustain the gains made through the exercise.

He also appealed to the Municipal Assembly to provide waste bins at strategic locations within the station to prevent littering and promote cleanliness.
