Tamale, Sept 26, GNA – The MTN Ghana on Saturday held a health walk and organised a free health screening in Tamale aimed at promoting physical fitness and encouraging the public to undertake regular health checks.

Members of the public including staff of the MTN Ghana, members of keep-fit clubs and football enthusiasts took part in the exercise.

They walked through some of the principal streets of the metropolis and ended at the Jubilee Park, where they accessed free screening for blood pressure, blood sugar, body mass index and eye conditions amongst others.

The health walk and screening formed part of activities marking this year’s Savannah Fest, which is MTN Ghana’s community engagement initiative to promote healthy lifestyles and engage communities within its operational areas.

Mr Richard Asamane the, Area Sales Manager, North, MTN Ghana, speaking during the exercise, said the health walk was to encourage people to exercise regularly and adopt healthy lifestyles.

He said the exercise underscored the importance of maintaining physical and mental well-being noting that “A healthy mind lives in a healthy body.”

Mr Asamane encouraged the public to take advantage of the health screening to know their health status, saying qualified medical personnel were available to provide advice and referrals where necessary.

He touched on other activities as part of the Savannah Fest, which included a clean-up exercise and an entertainment event scheduled for October 02 at the University for Development Studies as well as the finals of an inter-community football gala scheduled for October 03 in Tamale.

Dr Daniel Opoku Gyamfi, the Executive Director, Savannah Opticals and Eye Care, who led the medical team for the health screening, said the exercise provided participants with an opportunity to identify health conditions they might not have been aware of.

He said the medical team conducted eye examinations to assess participants’ vision and eye pressure alongside other health checks.

Dr Gyamfi said participants requiring reading glasses or medication were being assisted while those requiring further medical attention were referred to appropriate health facilities.

Dr Gyamfi encouraged the public to undertake regular health checks and adhere to medical advice to help prevent complications and maintain good health.
