Wenchi, (Bono), Sept. 07, GNA – The Wenchi Municipal Assembly (WMA) in the Bono Region has called for strict enforcement of road safety regulations to bring sanity on the various roads in the municipality.
The Executive Committee of the Assembly made the call at the Second General Meeting of the second session of the Ninth Assembly of the WMA at Wenchi.
They also urged the police to stop minors from riding tricycles popularly known as ‘Okada or Pragiya’ for commercial purposes.
Reacting, Chief Superintendent of Police (C/Supt) George Kwakye, the Wenchi Municipal Police Commander noted that intensified public education was required to control the operations of the riders.
He said the riders ought to be sensitized on road safety regulations as well as safety measures and cautioned that any tricycle rider who breached road safety regulations would be prosecuted accordingly.
C/Supt Kwakye called on the WMA to roll out extensive public education on road safety in the municipality, saying that would promote responsible tricycle and motorbike riding.
He noted that ensuring safety on the road remained collective responsibility and called for support from corporate bodies.
