Accra, Sept. 20, GNA – The Accra-Labone Leo Club has marked its 33rd charter anniversary with a donation to children with cancer at the Rebecca Akufo-Addo Sunshine House of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
The Club, which celebrated its charter anniversary on September 16, commemorated the milestone with the children on September 19 through recreational activities and the presentation of assorted items.
Ms Suzan Nana Akua Asante, President of the Club, said the items included colouring books, crayons, colouring pencils, puzzle books, storybooks, pencil cases, erasers, pencils, sharpeners and bicycles to keep the children engaged and active.
Members of the Club also spent time with the children and engaged them in recreational activities as part of the celebration.
Ms Asante said the Club intended to go beyond one-off donations by building long-term partnerships with other Leo Clubs, organisations and foundations to sustain initiatives that positively impacted lives.
She said the initiative reflected the humanitarian values of the Lions movement and reaffirmed the Club’s commitment to putting smiles on the faces of people, particularly children facing difficult circumstances.
Ms Asante expressed appreciation to the Accra Golden Lions Club, Gamadey Foundation and other supporting clubs and individuals for their contributions towards the programme.
She appealed to non-governmental organisations, foundations, government agencies and other organisations to support initiatives aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable people and “making other people smile.”
