Ave-Dakpa (V/R), Oct. 24, GNA – Mr Bless Kojo Katamani, the Akatsi North District Chief Executive (DCE), has donated 1,200 school desks to schools across the district to improve classroom conditions and enhance teaching and learning.
The donation is intended to address furniture shortages in schools and provide pupils with a more conducive environment for effective learning.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr Katamani commended teachers in the district for their dedication and commitment to educating pupils and students.
He urged them to intensify their efforts to improve academic performance and raise educational standards across the district.
Commenting on the district’s performance in the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), the DCE said more efforts were needed to achieve better results in subsequent examinations.
He stressed that improving educational outcomes required collective responsibility, involving teachers, parents, leaders from the traditional authorities and other stakeholders.
Mr Katamani said he would collaborate with the various stakeholders to promote discipline among pupils and students and create an environment that supported academic excellence.
He further disclosed that an additional 600 desks were expected to arrive in November for distribution to schools that had not benefited from the current donation.
The additional furniture, he said, would extend the intervention to more schools and help address the persistent shortage of classroom desks in the district.
Madam Augustina Aku Modzaka, the Head of Supervision of Schools in Akatsi North, expressed gratitude to the District Assembly, the District Coordinating Director and the DCE for supporting schools with the furniture.
She said inadequate classroom furniture remained a major challenge in several schools, particularly those with high enrolment.
“Furniture is really a challenge in most of our schools, especially those with high enrolment. As these desks have come, we pray for more,” she said.
Madam Modzaka pledged that the schools would make efforts to maintain the desks properly to ensure their durability and continued use by pupils.
She expressed appreciation to the Assembly for the intervention, describing it as timely support for schools in the district.
The initiative forms part of efforts to improve educational infrastructure and address logistical challenges affecting teaching and learning in Akatsi North.
