Nkwanta (O/R), Oct. 24, GNA- Voting for the Women Organiser position in Nkwanta South Constituency elections of the Oti Region was suspended following concerns over a change in the ballot paper arrangement and the omission of the incumbent’s name from the voters’ register.
The development raised concerns among supporters of the incumbent, who believed the changes may be a deliberate attempt to sabotage her chances in the election.
Madam Celestin Abasa, the incumbent, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said she was originally listed as number two on the ballot paper, but the position was subsequently changed to number one, raising questions about the process.
Madam Abasa was contested by Madam Mary Malu.
She also expressed concern over the absence of her name from the voters’ register, a situation that has further complicated the voting process for the position.
Mr Joseph Kwame Antwi Awal, the Elections Director, called for calm among delegates and supporters, assuring them that the necessary corrections would be made to address the concerns.
He explained that voting in other positions was continuing while steps were being taken to resolve the issues surrounding the Women Organiser position.
The suspension was expected to remain in place until the discrepancies are addressed to ensure that the electoral process proceeds smoothly.
The incident highlighted the need for accuracy in electoral materials and proper verification of the voters’ register to promote transparency and confidence in the constituency elections.
