Akatsi (V/R), Aug. 1, GNA – Winners Co-operative Credit Union Limited (WINCCU) has announced measures to strengthen its governance, technology and risk management systems as it prepares for regulatory reforms expected to reshape Ghana’s credit union sector.

The Union said the reforms would require stronger institutional capacity, improved financial management, and enhanced corporate governance to ensure compliance with emerging regulatory standards.

Mr Samuel K. Avevor, Chairman of the Board of Directors of WINCCU, announced this while presenting the Board of Directors’ and Management Report at the Union’s 13th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Akatsi.

He said WINCCU had positioned itself among credit unions preparing to meet the demands of the evolving regulatory environment and was investing in systems to improve operational efficiency and institutional resilience.

Mr Avevor said management was strengthening internal controls, financial reporting systems, information technology infrastructure and staff capacity to ensure the Union remained competitive and compliant with future regulatory requirements.

He noted that the Board remained committed to maintaining prudent corporate governance practices while safeguarding members’ investments and ensuring transparency and accountability in all its operations.

Mr Avevor said the Union would continue to invest in digital technology to improve service delivery and provide members with convenient access to financial services through electronic platforms.

He added that management would intensify member education to deepen understanding of savings, investments, loan management and developments within the regulatory environment.

Mr Avevor said WINCCU remained committed to protecting members’ privacy while strengthening institutional systems to support sustainable growth.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr Felix Kumedzro, Principal of Akatsi College of Education, commended WINCCU for its consistent growth over the past 12 years and urged its leadership to view changes in the financial landscape as opportunities rather than challenges.

He said credit unions played a critical role in promoting financial inclusion, supporting entrepreneurship and contributing to national development, adding that institutions that embraced innovation would remain relevant and competitive.

Dr Kumedzro encouraged the Union to prioritise excellent customer service by treating every member with respect, simplifying financial products, ensuring prompt feedback on loan applications and strengthening staff professionalism through continuous training.

He further recommended periodic customer satisfaction surveys, effective communication, teamwork, accountability and the establishment of a complaints register to improve service quality.

Dr Kumedzro explained that although WINCCU recorded a 53.9 per cent growth in membership between 2023 and 2024, future success should not only be measured by membership numbers but also by the quality of services delivered and the satisfaction of members.

Mr Daniel Dagba, Municipal Chief Executive for Akatsi South, also commended the Union for its contribution to socio-economic development and urged members to remain united and disciplined as the institution prepared for its next phase of growth.

He stressed that financial institutions such as WINCCU remained important partners in local development and encouraged both existing and prospective members to support the Union’s vision.

The AGM was held on the theme: “Twelve Years of Growth: Celebrating Successes, Embracing Challenges for National Development.”
