Vance blames Iran war for Republican defeat in US midterms

Washington, Nov 4.  (dpa/GNA) – James David Vance, US Vice President, has blamed the Iran war launched by his administration for the Republicans’ routing in the country’s midterm elections.

“The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night,” Vance wrote on X on Wednesday.

“Everyone knows why we lost. And any honest conversation about where we go from here must start there.”

Vance’s assessment came after Democrats took control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate in Tuesday’s congressional elections, which were seen as a referendum on the policies of President Donald Trump.

The war on Iran, launched by Trump alongside Israel in February, has drawn public opposition, with fuel prices rising during the conflict.

Vance initially opposed the war but fell in line after Trump decided to join Israel and attack Iran in late February.

Vance wrote that many voters who had backed him and Trump in the presidential elections two years ago were “pissed” and had voted for the Democrats.

The vice president expressed understanding for voters’ anger, and said: “To the people who are just pissed at the results, you should be. Let’s take that anger and get back to the work of saving our country.”
