Goaso (Ahafo), Aug. 15, GNA – Voting in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ahafo Regional Executive Elections has commenced at Goaso, the regional capital, with 162 delegates expected to cast their ballots.
A visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to the Goaso Catholic Pastoral Centre, the venue for the polls, showed that voting was progressing peacefully amid a heavy police presence to maintain law and order.
The Electoral Commission is conducting and supervising the elections, with delegates drawn from the six constituencies in the region.
The constituencies are Tano North, Tano South, Asutifi North, Asutifi South, Asunafo North and Asunafo South.
The delegates comprise constituency executives, representatives of the Regional Council of Elders, former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, and former Members of Parliament (MPs).
Speaking in an interview with the media, Mr Atuahene Antwi, Chairman of the Ahafo Regional NPP Election Committee, said the delegates were deciding on 29 candidates contesting various regional executive positions.
He said the positions included Regional Chairman, First Vice Chairman, Second Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Organiser, Women’s Organiser, Youth Organiser, Communications Officer and Nasara Coordinator.
