Tema, Aug. 17, GNA – The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has completed the initial phase of repair works on the Ashaiman section of the 161kV Tema-Achimota transmission line.
GRIDCo said a team of engineers undertook the preliminary works on Sunday, August 16, 2026, after which power supply was restored to affected customers.
The company, in a statement issued by its Corporate Communications Section, said the final phase of the project, involving the replacement of the affected transmission tower, would be carried out on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
According to GRIDCo, the tower was damaged following a welding explosion in July 2026.
The statement said the company would collaborate with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to provide prior notice to customers and communities that might be affected by the planned works.
It added that the advance notice would include information on any temporary power supply interruptions associated with the tower replacement exercise.
GRIDCo explained that the replacement of the tower formed part of efforts to restore the full integrity, reliability and resilience of the transmission line.
The company expressed appreciation to the public for its patience, understanding and cooperation as it continued work towards the successful completion of the project.
