Sunyani (Bono), Aug. 15, GNA – Dr Dominic Frimpong, an educationist, has urged Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of consistent reading, describing it as one of the most effective ways of managing stress.
According to Dr Frimpong, the Head of the Languages Department at the St Joseph College of Education, Bechem, in the Ahafo Region, reading a book for just six minutes could reduce stress levels by as much as 68 per cent.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Dr Frimpong said reading was a more reliable means of managing stress than listening to music and other forms of entertainment.
He noted that regular reading also helped to build a strong vocabulary and improve communication and language skills.
Dr Frimpong made the remarks after presenting copies of a book he authored to members of the Association of Languages Students (ASLANGS) of the College at Bechem in the Tano South Municipality.
He explained that the distribution of the book, titled “Angular Tragedy”, was intended to inspire students to read widely and improve their grammar and language proficiency.
Dr Frimpong encouraged members of the Association and other beneficiaries to read the book for their personal development and long-term academic success.
He said he planned to distribute copies of the book to educational institutions in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions and would follow up to ensure that beneficiaries read and benefited from the publication.
