Sunyani (Bono), Aug. 15, GNA – Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area, has expressed concern over the unauthorised sale and encroachment of cemetery lands in Sunyani and warned divisional and sub-chiefs to desist from such practices.
The Paramount Chief cautioned that any chief found to be involved in the sale of cemetery lands would face sanctions from the Sunyani Traditional Council (STC).
Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II gave the warning after being sworn in as President of the Sunyani Traditional Council at a ceremony held at the Nana Bosoma Royal Palace in Sunyani.
He was sworn into office by Her Ladyship Jennifer Pokua Amponsah, a Circuit Court Judge in Sunyani, following his gazetting by the National House of Chiefs on Thursday, July 30, 2026, in accordance with the Chieftaincy Act.
The judge administered the Oaths of Office and Secrecy to the Paramount Chief in the presence of government officials, traditional authorities, queen mothers and representatives of the security services.
Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II also expressed concern about the activities of some estate developers and private builders who had encroached on cemetery lands and waterways by putting up unauthorised structures.
He said the Traditional Council would intensify monitoring and supervision of lands under its jurisdiction to prevent further encroachment and illegal developments.
The Paramount Chief urged sub-chiefs within the Traditional Area to uphold integrity and refrain from actions likely to result in land disputes and protracted litigation.
He advised them to act responsibly in the discharge of their duties and ensure that lands reserved for public purposes were protected for future generations.
