Kadjebi (O/R), Aug. 08, GNA – The Management of Dapaa District Assembly (D/A) Primary School in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region, has appealed to benevolent organisations, philanthropists and development partners to support the construction of a new classroom block and other ancillary facilities.
They said this would help accommodate its growing pupil population, making teaching and learning more comfortable for the beneficiaries.
Mr George Gyampoh, the Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the school, made the appeal during a stakeholder engagement on education budgeting and accountability, organised at Kadjebi by ActionAid Ghana.
Mr Gyampoh said the existing classrooms were overcrowded, making effective teaching and learning difficult and affecting the quality of education in the school.
He indicated that the school currently had a population of nearly 60 children in one classroom, describing the situation as unhealthy for both learners and teachers.
Mr Gyampoh said the provision of additional classrooms would create a more conducive learning environment, reduce congestion, and improve academic performance.
He also appealed for the provision of other ancillary facilities, including teachers’ furniture, learners’ desks, toilet facilities, and teaching and learning materials to enhance educational delivery.
The PTA Chairman called on the Government, corporate institutions, non-governmental organisations and individuals to complement efforts by the Ghana Education Service, to improve infrastructure in deprived schools.
He said investing in educational infrastructure was essential towards ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all children, in line with the Sustainable Development Goal Four (SDG 4).
Participants at the engagement underscored the need for increased investment in basic education infrastructure and urged stakeholders to ensure that education budgets were adequately funded and implemented, to help address pressing challenges confronting schools in the district.
The programme formed part of efforts by ActionAid Ghana to promote transparency, accountability and citizen participation in education financing and service delivery in the Oti Region.
