Accra, Oct. 19, GNA – The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested four suspects over 142 parcels of suspected cannabis allegedly transported from Bimbilla to Tamale.
The Police also rejected an alleged GH¢50,000 bribe offered by the suspects, the Command said.
In a statement signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Wisdom Lavoe, the Regional Police Commander, the Command said its Special Operations Team, known as Red Maria, made the arrests on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
The statement said the team, acting on intelligence, intercepted a mini commercial van with registration number GW 7800-14 at about 1830 hours.
“The vehicle was being driven by Alhassan Zeblim, 46, who was suspected of transporting the narcotic drugs.”
A search of the vehicle uncovered 142 compressed parcels of suspected cannabis concealed in four jute sacks commonly known as “Ghana Must Go” bags, the statement said.
It said Zeblim told the Police that he was transporting the consignment to Ibrahim Yussif, 34, a tricycle rider in Tamale.
Yussif later arrived at an agreed location with his brother, Bawa Yussif, 56, and both were arrested, the statement said.
Mohammed Haruna, 32, who was subsequently identified as the alleged owner of the consignment, was also arrested.
“The suspects allegedly offered the arresting officers a bribe of GH¢50,000, which the officers rejected,” the statement added.
The four suspects, the suspected drugs and the tricycle had been handed over to the Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Ghana Police Service for further investigations.
The Regional Command commended the officers for their swift action and integrity and urged other personnel to uphold similar standards.
