Sekondi (W/R), Aug. 08, GNA – The Western Regional Centre for National Culture (CNC), has organised a drama and cultural competition for Senior High School (SHS) students within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
The competition, dubbed: “Students’ Drama Festival (STUDRAFEST 2026), and organised in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), brought together eight schools involving: Adeimbra, Fijai, St John’s School, and Methodist Senior High Schools.
The rest are Diabene , Bompeh , Archbishop Porter Girls and Ahantaman Girls Senior High Schools.
The STUDRAFEST is a student-led initiative designed to nurture creativity, critical thinking, teamwork, and public speaking skills among the youth.
The winning school would represent the Western Region at the National Students’ Drama Festival Finals, scheduled to take place in Accra between October 29th and 30th , 2026.
Mr Kasim Mireku, the Acting Western Regional Director, CNC, told the Ghana News Agency during the event that through the festival, the students were performing original plays that reflected contemporary realities, celebrate Ghanaian values, and promote the country’s rich cultural heritage.
He said their performances centred on issues like drug abuse among the youth, unity and diversity, the influence of new media, modern day parenting, cultural education, mental health, and climate change among other themes.
Mr Mireku noted that STUDRAFEST provided a platform for the students to express themselves, tell the Ghanaian stories, and inspire positive change through performing arts.
“Today, we celebrate more than a drama competition. We celebrate the creativity, talent, and cultural identity of Ghana through the perspective of our young people,” Mr Mireku added.
He stated that the drama presented an opportunity to preserve Ghana’s traditions, promote national values, and encourage dialogue on issues affecting communities.
At the end of the competition, Ahantaman Girls’ SHS emerged the winners and took home a trophy, a product from Yebitom Foods, one of the sponsors of the event, and medals for all 25 cast and crew.
Fijai SHS placed second with each of the 25 cast and crew receiving silver medals, with St. John’s School placing third in the competition taking their cast of bronze medals for all its team members.
