Ho, Oct 19, GNA – Mr Stephen Adom, Ho Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has taken delivery of 1,400 solar panels and streetlights to improve night-time visibility and enhance public safety across the municipality.

The equipment was received on October 15, 2026, following a request made to the Ministry of Energy through the Ministry of Roads and Highways to strengthen street lighting and improve security in Ho.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Adom said the initiative would support the installation of streetlights along major roads and other principal streets within the municipality to make movement safer for motorists, pedestrians and residents at night.

He said the planned installations would cover key routes, including the dual carriage road from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to Sokode Gborgame, the Powerhouse–Youth Centre stretch and the Barracks New Town–Trafalgar Road, alongside other major streets.

The intervention is expected to improve visibility, reduce risks associated with poorly lit roads, and enhance security in communities. It also forms part of efforts to support Ho’s vision of becoming a cleaner, safer and more vibrant “Oxygen City,” while improving the urban environment for residents and visitors.

However, the delivery has also drawn attention to the need for proper management and accountability in the distribution of the equipment. Madam Selase Elegbor, a resident of Kokompe, a suburb of Ho, expressed mixed feelings about the initiative and urged the Assembly to ensure that the streetlights were installed for their intended public use.

“The MCE should make sure that none of the lights ends up in anybody’s private home. If any are found in a private home, the person responsible should be prosecuted,” she said, stressing the importance of safeguarding public resources.

The Ho Municipal Assembly is expected to work with the relevant ministries and stakeholders to facilitate the installation and maintenance of the streetlights. Residents will be looking forward to the timely deployment of the equipment along the identified routes to improve road safety, strengthen security, and create a better living environment across the municipality.
