Ho, Aug. 24, GNA – Dr Robert Kofi Doh, a community advocate, has donated a fully mechanised borehole to the Ho-Heve community, to guarantee their permanent access to safe, clean drinking water.
He said the intervention was prompted by the persistent and severe water shortages in the area, where taps could run completely dry for two to three weeks, making this new source a critical lifeline for the community.
Dr Doh said the water crisis often forced school-aged children to spend valuable classroom hours searching for water, with the disruption taking a heavy toll on their academic performances.
At a short ceremony to hand over the facility to the community, Dr Doh said “water is life” and access to potable water was a basic human necessity.
He described the project as a direct response to a critical, long-standing need identified within Heve and adjoining neighborhoods.
Dr Doh disclosed that the project was executed in partnership with One Africa Market, a financial services firm in Accra, following his engagement with them concerning the challenge.
He noted that the successful completion of the facility highlighted the powerful impact that occurred when community needs, personal commitment, and corporate goodwill aligned.
He urged residents to view the borehole not just as mere physical infrastructure, but as a vital intervention designed to relieve the domestic burdens on women and children while elevating overall community wellbeing.
Dr Doh stated that the facility cost over GHS 6,000 and urged the residents to maintain it properly to ensure its longevity and long-term benefit to the community.
Madam Stephanie Oforiwah Asare, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Coordinator at One Africa Market, explained that the firm responded to Dr Doh’s request because the initiative aligned perfectly with their corporate values.
She commended Dr Doh for selflessly advocating for the community rather than himself.
Madam Asare described the initiative as laudable and that it formed part of a broader nationwide corporate social responsibility agenda the company intended to undertake.
Togbe Anikpi III, the Divisional Chief of Ho-Heve, commended Dr Doh and One Africa Market for their timely support, noting that the intervention would significantly alleviate the community’s water challenges.
He said the community would endevour to maintain the facility properly to extend its lifespan and ensure it benefits everyone.
