Akim Asene (E/R), Aug. 17, GNA – Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints have carried out a clean-up exercise at the Akim Asene Health Centre to promote environmental cleanliness and improve sanitation at the facility.
The exercise on Saturday formed part of the Church’s annual All-Africa Service Project (AASP), under which members engaged in community service activities including blood donation, tree planting, and clean-up exercises at public places across the continent.
Mr Clement Adade Ghansah, the President of the Akim Asene Branch of the Church, told the Ghana News Agency that the All-Africa Service Project was initiated in 2006 to demonstrate the church’s commitment to serving humanity and supporting communities through meaningful activities.
He explained that the project is inspired by the scripture in Mosiah 2:17, which teaches that service to others is service to God.
He encouraged the youth to embrace voluntary community service to help improve sanitation and safeguard public health.
Mr Ghansah said “We encourage the youth to actively participate in community service because maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility which contributes to the overall well-being of society.”
Mr Stephen Kwaku Asiedu, Quorum President, noted that the service project is held every year in August.
“Our belief is that service blesses both those who serve and those who receive it. That is why we remain committed to giving back to our communities every year,” he said.
He encouraged individuals and organisations to participate in the initiative.
Madam Queenstar Amoako, speaking on behalf of Mr Derek Wogodo, the Senior Physician Assistant in charge of the Akim Asene Health Centre, expressed appreciation to the Church for cleaning the facility.
“We are grateful to the Church for once again supporting the health centre through this clean-up exercise. The facility has benefited from similar services by the Church on several occasions, and we deeply appreciate the continued support,” she said.
She added that the exercise would significantly contribute to maintaining a clean and healthy environment for both patients and healthcare workers.
