Nkwanta (O/R), July 12, GNA – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Nkwanta South Constituency has made history with the election of a woman as Constituency Youth Organiser after she defeated two male contenders in a closely contested race.

Ms Safia Kasim secured 517 votes to defeat her closest rival, Mr Robert Avedzidah, who obtained 514 votes, while Mr Aminu Fuseini polled 242 votes during the constituency executive elections.

Her victory marks a significant milestone, making her the first woman to lead the party’s youth wing in the constituency.

The keenly contested election kept delegates and party supporters in suspense until the final ballots were counted, with Ms Kasim winning by a margin of three votes over her nearest challenger.

Following the declaration of results by Electoral Commission officials, jubilant supporters described the outcome as a victory for competence, determination and confidence in the ability of women to occupy leadership positions within the party.

They expressed optimism that the new Youth Organiser would unite the party’s youth wing and effectively mobilise young people for future political activities.

Party members also called on all contestants and their supporters to put the election behind them and work together to strengthen the NPP in the constituency as preparations begin for future electoral activities.

In her acceptance remarks, Ms Kasim thanked delegates for the confidence reposed in her and pledged to work diligently to advance the interests of the party’s youth. She urged members to remain united and focus on the tasks ahead.

Some party faithful who spoke to the Ghana News Agency said the outcome demonstrated the growing acceptance of women in frontline political leadership and reflected delegates’ willingness to entrust key positions to capable individuals irrespective of gender.

The election formed part of the NPP’s ongoing constituency executive elections aimed at electing leaders to steer the affairs of the party at the grassroots level.
