Asukawkaw (O/R), July 12, GNA – Sorting and counting of ballots are underway in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency executive elections in the Krachi East Municipality following the close of polls at about 2015 hours on Saturday.
The exercise is being supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) at the Asukawkaw Senior High School polling centre under tight security.
Voting, which commenced later than scheduled, was extended into the night due to intermittent rainfall and the late arrival of some delegates at the polling centre.
A total of 1,019 delegates were expected to cast their ballots to elect constituency executives to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.
By 1700 hours, 602 delegates had voted, while the remaining accredited delegates continued voting until polls eventually closed.
Mr Kafui Klotse, Krachi East Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission, said all delegates who were in the queue before the close of polls were allowed to vote in accordance with the party’s electoral guidelines.
Security personnel maintained law and order throughout the process as party agents and election officials observed the sorting and counting of ballots.
