Washington, July 16, (dpa/GNA) – Iran remains interested in an agreement with Washington, US government spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Thursday.
“Iran very much continues to talk to the United States of America and expressed that they want to make a deal with us” Leavitt said in her first public appearance at the White House since the birth of her second child in May.
She said Iran wants to talk because they are “suffering devastating blows” delivered by the US military. Leavitt said the US has been hitting Iranian targets for days “because of the conduct of Iran’s leadership.”
The US said Iran violated a recent agreement by attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Earlier, ships had come under fire while transiting the strait. The attacks are being attributed to Iran.
The US military again struck targets in Iran on Wednesday in two waves. Iran responded by firing on targets in the region. The US-allied Gulf states of Kuwait and Bahrain reported attacks. Jordan also reported renewed fire from Iran.
