Sekondi (W/R), July 29, GNA – The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has announced plans to develop the Monkey Hill Forest into a modern eco-tourism park.
Mr Frederick F. Faidoo, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), said the Assembly had received a proposal from a private investor to redevelop the Monkey Hill Forest into an eco-tourism park through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.
He made the announcement at the Second Ordinary Meeting of the Third Session of the Ninth Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly held in Sekondi.
Mr Faidoo said the proposal sought to transform the existing site into a modern eco-park to enhance tourism, recreation and environmental conservation within the metropolis.
“Under the proposed partnership, the investor intends to upgrade and develop the facility into a more attractive tourist destination, including the introduction of additional animal species and improved visitor amenities beyond the existing monkey population,” he said.
He said the Assembly’s management would undertake the necessary assessments and stakeholder engagements to determine the feasibility of the proposal and ensure that any partnership arrangement protected the interests of the Assembly.
Mr Faidoo said the partnership, when finalised, would contribute to job creation, tourism promotion and the socio-economic development of the metropolis.
