Ho, July 28, GNA – Mama Bobi III, the Queen of the Bake Clan of Ho Bankoe in the Asogli Traditional Area, has donated more than 70 Lenovo ThinkPad laptops to selected schools in Ho to promote digital education and bridge the technology gap among students.
The computers formed part of a consignment of 200 computers, comprising 150 Lenovo ThinkPads and 50 desktop computers, which the Queen secured during a visit to the United Nations last year through engagements with distinguished Ghanaians.
Speaking to Ghana News Agency (GNA) after the presentation, Mama Bobi III said the initiative was inspired by her desire to create opportunities for children to thrive in the digital age.
“It was not merely a transaction of technology; it was a covenant of hope for our children,” she said.
She added: “I stepped away from my duties to personally deliver some of these computers because I believe that a leader’s true throne is found in the service of her people.”
The beneficiary institutions were the Sonrise Senior High School, Kabore Primary School, RC Primary School (Mixed and Girls’ Sections), EP Primary School, Bankoe and LIFE-MAC Africa, which she said was selected because of its outstanding Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programmes across the Volta Region.
In all, more than 70 Lenovo ThinkPad laptops were distributed to support teaching and learning and equip students with practical digital skills.
Reflecting on the exercise, the Queen said the excitement on the faces of the pupils and students reinforced her commitment to investing in education.
“Each screen we placed before them is a window to possibility and a bridge across the digital divide that has held our communities back for too long,” she stated.
Mama Bobi said the greatest fulfilment of her traditional leadership was to see children empowered through education.
“As a Queenmother to this land, I carry no greater joy than knowing that our children are being equipped, empowered and embraced. Their education is our legacy, and their success is our crown,” she said.
She expressed the hope that the donation would inspire innovation, creativity and academic excellence among the beneficiaries and contribute to nurturing future leaders.
She added: “For my people, I will always rise. For our future, I will always give,” Mama Bobi affirmed, while appealing to individuals, corporate organisations and development partners to support efforts aimed at expanding access to quality education and digital learning resources.
