Anyako (V/R), July 28, GNA-Mama Tenge of Anyako-Konu, in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region, has donated a complete set of brass band musical instruments to the Anlo Awomefia Senior High School (A’A’Fia) at Anyako.
The donation forms part of her continuous support for education and the development of music in the school while the gesture also fulfilled a pledge she made during an earlier visit to the institution and observed that the existing brass instruments were in a poor state and urgently needed replacement.
Mama Tenge, who is also the wife of Togbi Tenge Dzoko Gligui VII, the Dufia of Anyako-Konu and Paramount Chief of Amugo-Vego Traditional Area, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said that the move was intended to enhance teaching and learning, particularly in music, and to motivate both students and teachers who show keen interest in the subject and emphasised that music remains an integral part of human existence.
“We all know music is part of human life; without music the world will be a boring place to stay. The new instruments would help students develop their skills and improve the overall quality of music education in the school,” she said.
She explained that the donation would also strengthen the school’s choir and enable proper preparations for important national and cultural events including Independence Day parades, cultural competitions and other school programmes that require musical accompaniment.
Mama Tenge urged the school authorities to take proper care of the instruments so that the intended purpose of the donation would be fully realised and stressed that responsible use of the equipment would allow more students to learn music for their personal benefit as well as for the progress of the school and the nation.
Mama Tenge said: “The total cost of the instruments stands at approximately GHS 80,000 and let me use this opportunity to express my gratitude to my husband, Togbi Tenge Dzokoto Gligui VII, who is also the Head of the Bate Clan, for his support.”
She further acknowledged the assistance of her personal aide, Mama Narpo, Mama Kokui Diakor, the Divisional Queen Mother of Asadame, and Togbi Agbetsi Zewu IV, Board Chairman of the school, who accompanied her during the presentation,
She said their presence demonstrated a collective commitment to improving education in the area.
Mr Gilbert Agbavor, the Headmaster of Anlo Awomefia Senior High School, who received the items on behalf of the school expressed profound appreciation to Mama Tenge Dzokoto Gligui for the kind gesture.
He described the move as one that would transform the school and lead to better academic and extracurricular achievements.
The headmaster assured the donor that the instruments would be used strictly for the intended purpose while stating that the donation would significantly boost the teaching and learning of music among both students and teachers.
Some students who spoke to the Ghana News Agency, at the ceremony also thanked Mama Tenge Dzokoto Gligui and the other dignitaries. They pledged to handle the instruments with care and to make the best use of them in their musical studies and performances.
The donation, according to them, would enrich the school’s cultural life and provide a strong foundation for students interested in pursuing music as a career or as a lifelong skill.
