Kumasi, July 28, GNA – MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability, announcing plans to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, as part of its long-term strategy to build a resilient and sustainable digital future.

This was announced by Ms. Angela Mensah-Poku, the Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, at the company’s annual Media and Stakeholder Forum in Kumasi.

The annual forum brings together journalists, business leaders, regulators, customers and other stakeholders to update them on MTN Ghana’s performance, strategic priorities and investments, while providing a platform for dialogue and feedback on the company’s operations and contribution to national development.

Ms. Mensah-Poku said sustainability had become an integral part of MTN’s business strategy, stressing that, the company was pursuing ambitious climate goals alongside investments in digital infrastructure.

“We remain committed to a more sustainable future with the ambition of achieving net zero by 2040,” she said.

She explained that, the telecommunications giant was making significant investments to improve network quality, while supporting Ghana’s digital transformation.

According to her, MTN Ghana would invest $1.1 billion over the next three years, including $380 million in 2026 alone, to expand network coverage, strengthen system resilience and improve service delivery across the country.

She said the investment would enhance fibre infrastructure, cloud services, cybersecurity and data solutions to support businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to embrace digital transformation and improve their competitiveness.

She said: “In enterprise, progress is measured by the confidence businesses have to invest, expand and create jobs.

Through these investments, we are helping businesses build resilience while contributing to Ghana’s economic transformation.”

Ms. Mensah-Poku said MTN’s commitment extended beyond connectivity to creating sustainable social impact through education, healthcare and economic empowerment.

She cited the recent commissioning of a state-of-the-art ICT and Robotics Centre at New Amakom Basic School in the Ashanti Region, describing it as an investment that would equip young learners with coding, robotics and digital skills while serving the wider community.

She said the initiative reflected MTN Foundation’s approach to corporate social investment, which focused on creating long-term opportunities rather than one-off donations.

Ms. Mensah-Poku announced that as part of activities marking MTN Ghana’s 30th anniversary celebration, the company would launch Sustainability Month in August to deepen collaboration with employees, suppliers and communities on environmental and sustainability initiatives.
