Police arrest three suspects in Bolgatanga for alleged human trafficking

Bolgatanga, July 1, GNA – The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects in Bolgatanga for an alleged human trafficking case.  

Peace Agbede, Favour Sunday Udo, and Faith Levy, were arrested for allegedly trafficking young girls and forcing them into prostitution at Gbane, a mining community in the Talensi District.  

A statement from the Police stated that preliminary investigations revealed that suspect Peace Agbede, met one of the victims in Nigeria and promised to help her join the Ghana movie industry because of her beauty.  

The statement said  the victim accepted and reluctantly followed her to Ghana.  

It said upon their arrival, Agbede failed to fulfil her promise and instead, took the victim to the mining site at Gbane and coerced her into prostitution.  

The statement said the victim was made to pay GH₡400.00 daily to her madam, suspect Peace Agbede.  

The statement said as a result of these activities, the victim got pregnant and gave birth on June 26, 2026.  

Following that, suspect Agbede and her accomplice, Favour Sunday Udo, visited the victim and tried convincing her to sell the baby for GH₡20,000.00 to an interested party, who was ready to pay the said amount for the child.  

The statement said a search conducted in the room of suspect Agbede, led to the recovery of six sales record books bearing the names of Esther, Mary, Bright, and Silver, and 265 unused condoms.  

The statement added that the Police also rescued four female victims aged between 18 and 20 years.  

The statement added that the suspects were in Police custody and would be put before the court to face justice.
