Aflao (V/R), July 3, GNA — Mr Felix Akakpo Akonta, a philantropist, also known as Torgbui Tenuvi II, has provided relief support to victims of recent flooding in parts of the Ketu South Municipality.

The intervention follows more than nine hours of continuous rainfall that caused widespread destruction across several communities, flooding homes, schools, markets, farmlands and affecting artisanal salt mining activities.

The Duta Electoral Area within the Aflao Traditional Area was among the hardest-hit communities, alongside Démadikope, Gakli and Agbawoeme.

Mr Dynamic Akakpo, who led the team on behalf of Mr Felix Akakpo Akonta during the distribution, said although his brother was out of the municipality, he used the opportunity to sympathise with the affected persons.

The exercise was carried out in collaboration with the Ketu South office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

Items distributed included 10 mattresses, 100 bags of rice, 15 cartons of spaghetti, 10 cartons of sardines, 200 mosquito nets, four sacks of maize equivalent to 240 bowls, 100 litres of cooking oil, and 150 bags of sachet water.

He said the gesture formed part of his commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals in times of distress.

“This intervention is not a permanent solution to the recurring flooding, but a modest effort to ease the immediate burden on affected families as we await government support and long-term measures,” he stated.

Residents who benefited from the donation expressed gratitude for the timely support, noting that it would help them cope with the aftermath of the disaster.

The floods have rendered several residents homeless, with ongoing assessments by NADMO expected to determine the full extent of damage and further assistance required.
