Accra, July 4, GNA – Dr George Amoh, the Executive Secretary, National Peace Council (NPC), has appealed to the Government, development partners, corporate organisations and well-meaning Ghanaians to support the Council to replace items destroyed by the recent floods and restore its operations.
He said the assistance was critical to enable the Council to continue carrying out its mandate of promoting peace, dialogue and conflict prevention across the country.
The appeal follows torrential rains that swept across parts of Accra on Monday, June 29, 2026, inundating the Council’s head office and causing extensive damage to office equipment and property.
The floodwaters submerged several offices, including that of the Executive Secretary, as well as various directorates and stores, damaging office furniture, electronic equipment and some official documents.
The flooding also disrupted the Council’s day-to-day operations, creating a major operational setback for the institution.
Dr Amoh joined staff members in an emergency exercise to salvage office equipment and recover valuable materials from the flood-affected offices to minimise the losses.
Following an initial assessment of the damage, he expressed concern about the impact of the flooding on the Council’s work, describing the destruction as a major challenge to its operations.
He, therefore, appealed to the Government, development partners, corporate organisations and individuals to assist the Council to replace the damaged furniture, equipment and other essential items to facilitate the speedy restoration of normal operations.
Dr Amoh said the National Peace Council remained committed to its constitutional mandate of promoting peaceful coexistence, mediation, dialogue and conflict prevention despite the setback.
He expressed optimism that with the needed support, the Council would be able to recover quickly and continue delivering on its mandate of sustaining peace and social cohesion across the country.
