Sunyani (Bono), Oct. 23, GNA – The Sunyani Traditional Council (STC) has unveiled a 10-year development agenda to push the holistic development of the area.

Dubbed: “Sunyani 2036 development agenda,” Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, the Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area and President of the STC, said the initiative sought to build a bridge between stakeholders for development.

He stressed the need to strengthen the prevailing peace and unity, towards pushing-forward the development of the traditional area.

At a breakfast meeting with corporate bodies at Sunyani, Odeefour Ogyeamansan, said “Chieftaincy isn’t about lording over the people, but bringing the traditional council closer to the people.”

He said that would enable the people to also contribute their quota towards the progressive growth and sustainable development.

Odeefour Ogyeamansan expressed concern about land disputes which could disturb prevailing peace in the traditional area, saying that the STC established its Stool Lands Office to address land-related disputes.

He advised the youth to channel their exuberances into productive activities, asking these who were unemployed to engage in farming and other vocations.

Odeefour Ogyeamansan called on corporate bodies to help address the housing deficit in Sunyani and also create more employment opportunities for the youth.

He called on the people of Sunyani to bury their differences and forge ahead in unity, stressing that strengthened peace remained a prerequisite for development.

He said the STC also had an Educational Trust Fund to support brilliant and needy students and also instituted the Akwaboa festival to enhance socio-cultural and business development.

“We have also established a Community Wi-Fi Project to help the youth to undertake research and facilitate their education,” he stated.

The Paramount Chief, added that the Council had distributed about 12,000 exercise books to school children, organised free extra classes for over 15,000 school children and supported 59 needy students in Senior High Schools.

Odeefour Ogyeamansan said the STC was set to establish a ‘Tools Hub’ in Sunyani to provide employable skills training for the youth.

He appealed to corporate bodies to support him to achieve his vision for the traditional area and Sunyani in particular.
