Takoradi, July 18, GNA – MTN Ghana is set to donate relief items valued at GH¢2.5 million to support families and individuals affected by the recent flooding incidents in parts of Accra.
The support, to be provided in partnership with the Multimedia Group, and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), was to bring some relief to people whose lives had been disrupted by the disaster.
A statement jointly signed by Madam Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, the Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, and Madam Efua Falconer, the Acting Senior Manager, Corporate Communications of MTN, said as part of the donation, MTN Ghana, and its partners would provide essential items to meet the pressing needs of affected households.
These include student mattresses and blankets, mosquito coils and repellents, and food supplies such as rice, cooking oil, tomato paste, canned mackerel, sugar, spaghetti, and oats.
The statement said detergents and toiletries would also be provided to help families maintain basic hygiene in their temporary living conditions.
“Distribution will be done in collaboration with NADMO to ensure that support reaches the most affected communities,” it added.
Speaking on the planned donation, Mr Stephen Blewett, the Chief Executive Officer for MTN Ghana, expressed solidarity for families impacted by the floods.
“We are heartbroken by the devastation caused by the flooding. Many families have lost their homes, their belongings, and their sense of normal life,” he said.
He stated that MTN believed in standing with their communities, especially in difficult times, noting that the support was their way of showing care, bringing some comfort, and reminding affected families that they were not alone as they begun the journey to rebuild.
The recent heavy rains caused flooding in several parts of Accra, displacing many families and leaving others in urgent need of shelter, food, and basic care.
MTN Ghana’s support was intended to complement ongoing national response efforts to assist affected communities.
As recovery efforts continued, the company remained hopeful that their support would bring relief and encouragement to affected families as they took steps to rebuild their lives.
