GRA extends tax filing deadline after floods

Accra, July 2, GNA – The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has extended the deadline for filing selected tax returns following recent flooding in Accra and surrounding areas.

The extension covers second quarter Corporate Income Tax (CIT), Personal Income Tax (PIT) and May 2026 Value Added Tax (VAT), National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL) and Communications Service Tax (CST) returns.

A statement issued by the GRA said the Commissioner-General approved the extension to ease the burden on taxpayers affected by disruptions caused by the floods.

Under the tax calendar, the returns were originally due on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, the last working day of the month following the taxable period.

The Authority has extended the filing deadline to Monday, July 6, 2026.

It said taxpayers who file their returns on or before the revised deadline would not be liable to late filing penalties for the affected filing period.

The GRA, however, said the penalties prescribed under the tax laws would apply to returns submitted after the extended deadline.

The Authority encouraged taxpayers to use the Taxpayer’s Portal and other digital platforms to submit their returns to minimise travel and avoid delays.

It advised taxpayers experiencing significant operational difficulties as a result of the flooding to contact the nearest GRA Taxpayer Service Centre or their respective tax offices for assistance.

The statement said the extension formed part of a targeted relief measure to support affected taxpayers while enabling them to meet their tax obligations without incurring immediate penalties.

The GRA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring uninterrupted tax administration while supporting businesses affected by the flooding.

It said the Authority remained focused on safeguarding domestic revenue mobilisation to support national development.
