Accra, July 8, GNA – The Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF) says three of its flagship road cycling events have been registered on the 2027 Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) calendar.

According to the GCF, the move would boost the country’s presence in international cycling and provide local riders with opportunities to earn world ranking points.

A statement signed by Mr Shaaban Mohammed, General Secretary of GCF, said the federation was taking a leading role in the development of road cycling with English-speaking countries of West Africa.

“We hope this achievement will inspire more West African nations to register UCI events, creating additional opportunities for cyclist s across the region to compete and accumulate valuable UCI ranking points,” the statement said.

The federation thanked the UCI, the ConfĂ©dĂ©ration Africaine de Cyclisme, the Ghana Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, sponsors and other partners for their support in the training and development of athletes, coaches, commissaires and technical officials.

The GCF said it has expanded its activities across the country, with 27 affiliated cycling clubs currently operating in 10 of Ghana’s 16 regions. It added that three more clubs are being established in additional regions as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots participation.

The federation said the expansion forms part of its long-term strategy to build a sustainable cycling ecosystem, develop world-class athletes and position Ghana as a leading destination for cycling in Africa.
