Bechem, (Ahafo), July 10, GNA-The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) and its partners have extended a public awareness creation campaign on corruption to Bechem in the Tano South Municipality of the Ahafo Region.
According to Miss Pamela Laourou, an Assistant Communication Officer at the GACC, the coalition remained dedicated to sensitizing the citizenry to understand their roles in fighting corruption.
Speaking at a forum at Bechem, she said promoting accountability and good governance at the local level remained critical, hence the need to empower the citizenry with the requisite knowledge on corruption.
The GACC in collaboration with the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), and the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) organised the campaign, being funded by the European Union.
It was attended by traditional authorities, youth and women groups and other stakeholders with most of the participants appreciating the need to tackle corruption right from homes, schools, churches, and workplaces.
Ms Laourou emphasised that fighting the canker, which remained the bane of accelerated national development, was everyone’s responsibility and urged Ghanaians to be interested in the development of their respective communities by playing their respective roles actively in fighting corruption.
She advised the members of the public to participate in decision making and local governance and work together to promote transparency and accountability at all levels.
Mr Collins Osei, the GACC’s focal person in the Ahafo Region and Executive Director of the Save Our Environment Foundation, an NGO took the participants through the various forms of corruption and reporting mechanisms.
