Accra, July 8, GNA – The EEZZY Group Foundation has unveiled a sponsorship package of GH¢800,000 to support Team Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The sponsorship package was unveiled at an official ceremony held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra on Tuesday.

The event was attended by officials of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), the National Paralympic Committee (NPC), corporate executives, athletes and other stakeholders.

Mr. Mohammed Raii, Chief Executive Officer of the EEZZY Group Foundation, said the sponsorship formed part of the Foundation’s commitment to supporting Ghanaian athletes to excel on the international stage.

He congratulated the athletes for earning qualification to represent Ghana and urged them to remain disciplined and focused throughout their preparations.

He said, “When the world talks about Ghana, we want it to be associated with excellence. We are proud to support team Ghana with GH¢800,000 and believe the athletes will make the nation proud in Glasgow.”

Mr Samson Deen, President of the Ghana Paralympic Committee and the African Paralympic Committee, expressed appreciation to the EEZZY Group Foundation for the timely intervention, describing it as a major boost for team Ghana.

He commended the Foundation for investing in sports development and providing hope to young athletes.

Mr Deen said Ghana possessed abundant sporting talent, but inadequate financial resources had often hindered athletes from reaching their full potential.

He said, “Talent is always raw and must be nurtured with the necessary resources to become excellence. Corporate support such as this gives our athletes the opportunity to realise their dreams and make Ghana proud.”

Mr Deen called on more corporate organisations to invest in sports, stressing that such partnerships would inspire young people and contribute to national development.

He encouraged the athletes to target podium finishes, stressing that discipline, commitment and hard work remained the key ingredients for success.

Mr Deen also urged stakeholders within the sports fraternity to work together to restore confidence in sports administration, noting that transparency and unity were essential to attracting corporate sponsorship.

He said, “the reason many companies hesitate to sponsor sports is the perception of confusion within the sector, sports belong to all of us and we must change the narrative through action and accountability.”

Mr Mawuko Afadzinu, First Vice President of the Commonwealth Games Federation Association of Ghana, said inadequate funding remained one of the biggest challenges facing sports development in the country.

He said the sponsorship demonstrated what could be achieved when the corporate sector partnered sporting institutions to develop talent.

He said, “Our responsibility as corporate partners is to create opportunities for our young people and give them reasons to believe that they can excel at the highest level, today’s support is an investment in Ghana’s future.”

The ceremony also recognised the 40 athletes selected to represent Ghana at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, with officials expressing confidence that the team would deliver an improved performance and bring honour to the nation.
