Twifo praso (C/R), July 16, GNA-The District Director of Education for Twifo-Atti-Morkwa, Mrs Augustina Attakorah has appealed to Christian leaders to stop discouraging parents from allowing their children from participating in cultural activities in schools and communities.
According to her, culture formed an essential part of Ghana’s identity and way of life, reflecting the traditions and origins of the various ethnic groups in the country.
Speaking during a programme at Twifo Anglican Basic School, she urged religious leaders to immediately put an end to such teachings, stressing that neglecting positive cultural practices could negatively affect national development and weaken the country’s cultural heritage.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Twifo-Atti-Morkwa, Mr Isaac Yawson, in an interview with the GNA outlined some of the educational interventions and policies the NDC government had planned for Ghanaian students including fees free first year tertiary education.
The Headteacher of Twifo Anglican Basic School, Mr Henry Masiku, also expressed concern over the growing population of the school, saying the existing infrastructure was inadequate to accommodate the increasing number of pupils.
He therefore appealed to the government, philanthropists, and other stakeholders to assist in expanding the school’s infrastructure to improve teaching and learning and promote academic excellence.
