Accra, Aug. 31, GNA – The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested six persons suspected to be members of an organised armed robbery syndicate operating in the Region.
The suspects are Philip Nyarko alias āKawawaā, Hadi Samed alias āTorontoā, Issahaku Musah alias āIsakā, Suraj Mohammed alias āBaba Ndeā alias āTroubleā, Hadi Abdul Majeed alias āPanieā, and Foster Owusu Afriyie alias āJoe Fraizerā.
Superintendent of Police Goodwin Atsu Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Command, said in a statement that the arrests were made in August 2026 by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit in Kumasi, acting on intelligence.
“Preliminary investigations have linked the suspects to reported street robbery incidents at Kaase, Ahinsan Estate, Santasi New Site, Bronikrom, Kwadaso Estate and other locations within the Region,” the statement said.
It said Police investigations had so far led to the recovery of two motorcycles, two machetes, knives, an iPhone 13, five keypad mobile phones, a laptop and 33 assorted mobile phones, among other exhibits, suspected to be connected to the activities under investigation.
The Police said further investigations led to the arrest of Augustine Agyemang Duah, suspected of assisting members of the syndicate to unlock mobile phones believed to have been stolen.
The Command said Philip Nyarko, Hadi Samed and Abdul Shattar, an alleged accomplice who is currently at large, were previously arrested on December 6, 2025, for conspiracy to commit crime, namely robbery and attempted robbery.
They were arraigned before the Asokwa Circuit Court One and subsequently granted bail, while the case remained pending before the court.
“Following their release, investigations indicate that some of the suspects allegedly resumed their criminal activities,” the statement said.
The Police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend Abdul Shattar and other persons suspected to be connected to the syndicate, namely Andy, Umaru, Dauda, Malik and Abdul Farouk.
It appealed to members of the public with information on the whereabouts of the suspects to contact the Police and advised them not to confront or attempt to apprehend any suspect themselves.
“Investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspectsā involvement, identify other persons connected to the syndicate and recover additional stolen property.”
The arrested suspects would be processed for arraignment before the appropriate court in accordance with the laws of Ghana, the statement said.
The Command urged victims who may have lost mobile phones or other property during robbery incidents to contact the Police to assist in identifying recovered exhibits.
It assured residents, particularly those within the Kumasi Metropolis, of its continued efforts to protect lives and property through intelligence-led and targeted operations.
The Command also acknowledged the operational and investigative support of the IGPās Special Operations Team (SOT) in efforts to detect crime, apprehend suspects and disrupt organised criminal activities in the Region.
