Accra, July 8, GNA – The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Ghana on Tuesday marked the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) with a call for deeper cooperation between Ghana and China in development, trade, governance and people-to-people exchanges.

The celebration, held in Accra, brought together representatives of Ghana’s major political parties, academics and Civil Society Organizations and media, to reflect on the CPC’s achievements and the enduring friendship between Ghana and China.

The event featured an inter-party dialogue on governance, development and international cooperation, underscoring the role of political party exchanges in strengthening bilateral relations between Ghana and China.

The Communist Party of China was founded on July 1, 1921.

Over the past 105 years, it has grown into one of the world’s largest political parties and has overseen China’s rapid economic growth, poverty reduction and increasing role in global affairs.

Mr Cong Song, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, said the Communist Party of China had, over the past 105 years, transformed China from a poor and underdeveloped nation into the world’s second-largest economy through people-centred governance, long-term planning and continuous reform.

He said under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, the Party remained committed to promoting high-quality development, common prosperity, peace and international cooperation while contributing to building a community with a shared future for mankind.

The Ambassador noted that China’s Four Global Initiatives and the outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation continued to create new opportunities for African countries, including Ghana, in trade, infrastructure, education and capacity building.

He reaffirmed China’s commitment to expanding practical cooperation with Ghana and Africa through initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative and China’s zero-tariff policy for African exports.

Mr Cong expressed appreciation for the longstanding friendship between Ghana and China, describing the ties as one founded on mutual respect, equality and shared aspirations for development.

He said as Ghana and China continued to strengthen bilateral relations, there was enormous potential to deepen cooperation in industrialisation, technology, agriculture and cultural exchanges.

Ms Samia Nkrumah, former Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), said the celebration was a reminder of the historic ties established between Ghana’s founding President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, and Chairman Mao Zedong more than six decades ago.

She recounted how Ghana became one of the first African countries to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China shortly after attaining republican status in 1960 and subsequently championed China’s reinstatement at the United Nations.

According to her, the vision of the two founding leaders laid a solid foundation that had enabled successive governments in both countries to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Ms Nkrumah expressed optimism that the partnership would continue to evolve beyond infrastructure to include greater collaboration in technology transfer, industrialisation and manufacturing to support Africa’s economic transformation.

Mr Kwesi Pratt Jnr, General Secretary of the Socialist Movement of Ghana, described the anniversary as a celebration of resilience, self-determination and the determination of the Chinese people to overcome poverty and external domination.

He praised the Communist Party of China for lifting millions of people out of poverty, advancing scientific and technological innovation and maintaining a consistent policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.

Mr Pratt also commended China’s continued support for Africa through the Belt and Road Initiative, expanded trade opportunities and its commitment to South-South cooperation.

He reaffirmed support for the One China Policy and expressed confidence that China would continue to play a constructive role in promoting global peace and development.

Representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Deputy Treasurer Mr Thomas Ayisi congratulated the Communist Party of China on its milestone anniversary and conveyed the party’s fraternal greetings.

He said both parties shared values centred on social justice, people-centred development and inclusive governance, adding that the friendship between the NDC and the CPC had continued to grow over the years.

Mr Ayisi expressed the hope that the relationship would further deepen for the benefit of both countries and their peoples.

Mr Stephen Kwesi Acquah, who represented the New Patriotic Party (NPP), also congratulated the CPC on behalf of the party’s leadership and membership and cknowledged China’s remarkable transformation over the past century.

He commended the country’s contributions to Ghana’s development in infrastructure, education, agriculture, healthcare and trade.

Mr Acquah reaffirmed the NPP’s commitment to strengthening party-to-party relations with the CPC and expressed support for enhanced Ghana-China cooperation based on mutual respect and shared development aspirations.
