Cedi weakens against major trading currencies

Accra, July 7, GNA – The Cedi depreciated against the United States dollar, British pound sterling and euro between June 29 and July 6, 2026.  

The depreciation meant more cedis were required to purchase the three major foreign currencies over the review period.  

Bank of Ghana exchange rate data showed that the average interbank exchange rates used by commercial banks increased for all three currencies at the close of business on the previous trading day.  

The United States dollar buying rate rose from GHS11.2869 on June 29 to GHS11.3838 on July 6, while the selling rate increased from GHS11.2981 to GHS11.3952.  

The British pound sterling buying rate increased from GHS14.9133 to GHS15.2042 over the period, with the selling rate rising from GHS14.9294 to GHS15.2206.  

The euro buying rate also rose from GHS12.8596 on June 29 to GHS13.0218 on July 6, while the selling rate increased from GHS12.8724 to GHS13.0347.  

Among the three currencies, the pound sterling recorded the largest increase in its buying rate, rising by GHS0.2909.   

The dollar buying rate increased by GHS0.0969, while the euro buying rate gained GHS0.1622.
