Sunyani (Bono), July 15, GNA – group of communicators of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday picked nomination forms for Mr Abubakar Yakubu to contest the Bono Regional Communications Director position of the party.
The group said it had also paid the GH¢5,000 filing fee on behalf of Mr Yakubu, popularly known in political circles as “Baba Amando”, who is the Sunyani East Constituency Communications Officer of the NPP and is currently standing trial at the Adenta District Court Nine on cyber-related charges.
The group comprised newly elected constituency communications officers, panellists and serial callers of the NPP drawn from the 12 constituencies in the Bono Region.
Mr Yakubu came into the political spotlight following his arrest and detention by the Police on April 13, 2026.
He is being prosecuted for alleged false publication, offensive conduct and circulating digitally altered images of President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking to the media at the party’s regional office in Sunyani, Mr Richard Appiah-Kubi, spokesperson for the group, said the communicators were firmly behind Mr Yakubu, whom he described as a fearless communicator.
“Baba Amando is the kind of communicator the NPP requires if the party desires to regain political power in the 2028 general election,” he said.
Mr Appiah-Kubi, who is also the newly elected Tain Constituency Communications Officer of the NPP, alleged that the Government was using state institutions to intimidate Mr Yakubu.
“We know that the Government is using state machinery to chastise Baba Amando and slow him down,” he claimed.
“But he is one of the finest NPP communicators, and with him the party can make a significant impact in the 2028 general election. We are strongly behind his bid to become the Bono Regional Communications Director of our great party,” he added.
In a telephone interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Yakubu expressed appreciation to party members, supporters and the regional and national executives of the NPP for their continued support.
He pledged to serve the party diligently and work towards helping it regain political power in the 2028 general election.
Mr Yakubu also called on members of the party to remain united and resolute, saying unity remained the surest path to electoral victory and to improving the living conditions of Ghanaians.
