Bangkok, July 12, (dpa/GNA) – At least 15 tourists from India have died in a boat accident in south-western Vietnam, state media reported on Saturday as rescuers searched the area for survivors.
The speedboat operated by a local tour firm, capsized off the coast of Vietnam’s largest island, Phú Quốc in the Gulf of Thailand, the VnExpress newspaper reported, citing official sources.
The accident occurred just 400 metres off the coast in rough seas. Many of the 32 tourists and four crew on board the speedboat went overboard, while others remained stuck inside the vessel.
Boats in the vicinity assisted the rescue efforts, which were still ongoing on Saturday evening. Indian authorities confirmed the incident but did not initially comment on the number of fatalities.
