Sege, Sept. 30, GNA – The Ada West District Assembly has handed over a newly constructed 10-seater toilet facility for the Ada Senior High Technical School (ASTECH) at Sege.

The facility forms part of eight development projects completed by the assembly under phase one of its development programme, with the projects funded mainly through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).

Mr Modjifa Tanihu J.J.F. Mills-Nkrumah, the Ada West District Chief Executive, said the projects represented an investment of about GH¢4.3 million funded through the DACF from September 2025 to date.

Mr Mills-Nkrumah said the assembly was also considering a request from ASTECH for the construction of a modern science laboratory through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).

The DCE urged beneficiary communities and management committees to take ownership of the facilities and ensure proper maintenance.

Dr Stephen Arthur, the District Education Director, urged students to take advantage of the opportunities available to them and not be discouraged by the category of school they attended.

He encouraged them to make positive use of social media, cautioning them against using the platforms irresponsibly.

Mr Thomas Raphael Vroom, the Headmaster of ASTECH, said the project was in response to concerns over the poor condition of the school’s previous toilet facility.

He said the old facility had become unsafe, noting that whenever students visited it, the structure shook and had to be supported with blocks and sticks.

Mr Vroom said the condition prompted the school’s management to appeal to the assembly for assistance, which responded promptly by providing the new facilities.

He appealed to students to take proper care of the facilities to ensure that it served the school for a long time.

He particularly cautioned female students against disposing of used sanitary pads into the toilet, saying such practices could lead to blockages and damage to the facility.

Miss Elikem Esi Vormawor, Head Prefect of ASTECH, and Miss Justine Esinam Semeha, a student, expressed appreciation to the assembly and the District Education Directorate for the facilities.

They pledged, on behalf of the students, to keep the facility clean and use it responsibly.
