WNYL calls for Pan-African unity

Takoradi, June 01, GNA – The Western Nzema Youth League (WNYL), a youth group, has called for Pan-African unity, condemning the xenophobic attacks targeting foreign African nationals in South Africa.

Dr Patrick Ekye Kwesie, Leader of the WNYL, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) expressed deep concern over the recurring attacks which had resulted in the destruction of properties, and the displacement of fellow Africans, including several Ghanaian citizens.

He said: “As a youth-led organisation rooted in the values of communal solidarity and economic empowerment, the WNYL views these acts of violence as a betrayal of the Pan-African spirit that liberated the continent from colonialism and apartheid.”

He noted with concern that these attacks amounted to internal socio-economic frustrations that ultimately weakened the entire continent.

Dr Kwesie called on the South African authorities to act decisively to halt those attacks, protect all foreign nationals, and bring perpetrators to justice.

He also called for a continental dialogue of African youth groups to establish a permanent early-warning mechanism against xenophobia for unity.

“From Soweto to Sampa, we share one destiny. The blood of an African brother or sister in Johannesburg is not different from the blood of a Nzema, so we must end these attacks,” he added.
