Turkey urges US, Iran to return to talks – Foreign Minister

ANKARA, June 11 (RIA Novosti/GNA) – Turkey is concerned about rising tensions between the United States and Iran and calls on both sides to return to the negotiating table to complete the settlement process, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Thursday.

“We believe it is critically important to prevent any interruption in the negotiation process between Iran and the United States. The only path to a resolution is diplomacy, and efforts aimed at reaching an agreement must be brought to completion,” Fidan said at a press conference in Sofia.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties. Iran responded by striking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East. On April 7, Washington and Tehran announced a ceasefire. Subsequent talks held in Islamabad ended without a breakthrough.

Currently, a negotiation process is underway between Iran and the United States, with recent efforts focused on attempting to finalize a framework memorandum of understanding. At the same time, parties occasionally exchange isolated strikes.
