Agbozume (V/R), June 23, GNA – The Somè Senior High School Old Students Association (SSOSA) has scheduled July 3, 2026, as a General Meeting day for all old students of the school, ahead of their 60th Anniversary celebration in October.
Mr Godson Sena Adjavor, the General Secretary of the Association told the Ghana News Agency, in an interview that the meeting would be part of preparations towards the 60th Anniversary celebration on October 31, and would serve as a platform to deliberate on how to ensure a successful celebration and outline key projects the Association intends to execute for the benefit of the school.
“Our main objective is to construct an 800-bed capacity dormitory for female students of the school, a project we described as long overdue given the deplorable accommodation conditions currently facing the girls,” he said.
He noted that the current girls’ dormitory, which has a capacity of only 200 beds, was occupied by over 600 students, a situation he said does not reflect well on their alma mater and must be urgently addressed by the old student body.
He explained that although the boys’ dormitory also required significant attention, the Association deliberately chose to prioritise the girls’ dormitory as part of efforts to promote girl-child education, and added that upon completion of the new facility, the current girls’ dormitory would be converted for use by male students.
“The current 200-bed capacity dormitory for the ladies in the school is occupied by over 600 students and we think this does not speak well with our dear Alma Mater.”
Mr Adjavor used the occasion to call on all old students to take pride in their school and contribute their quota towards its development, and stressed that Somè Senior High School, popularly known as SOSEC, was responsible for shaping the lives of many of its alumni who now occupy prominent positions across the country.
He added that, “Let’s remember that it is SOSEC that made us who we are today and we must be proud of our Alma Mater.
Currently, it is old students that are building their schools, all the big schools we have been hearing of in the country have been built by their old students and SOSEC should not be different, so let’s all come on board to make Great SOSEC, Greater SOSEC.”
He noted that the July 3 meeting would also serve as a networking opportunity, as alumni who are chief executives of companies and others working at the highest levels of government would be in attendance, with the potential to change the fortunes of younger old students who may be seeking employment or business connections.
He also appealed to non-governmental organisations, individuals, philanthropists, and the general public to support the Association in its drive to build the dormitory and improve conditions at the school, which was founded in 1966 by the Agbozume Scholars Association (ASA).
He said the school was absorbed into the public school system on October 11, 1977, with a motto, “Tso Nakle” (Arise and Shine), which remained a clarion call to students to be beacons of society wherever they find themselves.
