Sunyani, (Bono), June 1, GNA – Mr Ranford Antwi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Sunyani-based Suncity Group of Companies has cautioned technical education students against the use of illicit drugs and alcoholism.
He noted that substance abuse and alcoholism could not only endanger their health but had serious influences that could drive students and the youth into acts of lawlessness and possibly truncate their education and ruin their future.
Mr Antwi, who also contested the Sunyani East Constituency parliamentary elections as an independent candidate in the Election 2024, gave the caution when he addressed students of the Sunyani Methodist Technical Institute at leavers exit conference.
The management of the school organised the conference for its final year students on the theme: “Beyond the classroom: Ready for the world”.
Mr Antwi expressed concern about the growing youth abuse of “Tramadol”, an illicit drug as well as Indian hemp smoking and peddling as well as alcoholism and thereby driving many of them including students to acts of lawlessness and indiscipline.
He said collective approach was also required to stem promiscuity and the growing moral decadence among Senior High and Technical School students in the country and urged female students to also eschew unhealthy and pre-marital sexual practices.
Mr Antwi told the students that their future was in their own hands, urging them to rather concentrate on their books and remain studious to justify the investments their families were making on them.
He said education remained the surest legacy their families could bequeath to the students and advised them to shun bad peers who could lure them into unhealthy behaviours which would be difficult for them to stop.
Mr Antwi told the students that with determination and hard work they would be able to acquire the required employable skills and get ready jobs, amid pressing challenges confronting the institute.
Madam Evelyn Konadu Boateng the Principal of the Institute urged the students to remain disciplined, respect their teachers and be committed to their studies.
She said the school authority would not tolerate any form of indiscipline and acts of lawlessness, warning that students who misbehaved would be sanctioned accordingly.
