Assin Bereku C/R), June 26, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of a 24-hour economy market at Assin Bereku in the Assin North District of the Central Region describing it as a ‘major intervention to boost trade and economic activity.’
He noted that, the project formed part of a broader initiative to construct 261 markets across all districts in the country.
According to the President, when completed, the market will consist of a day-care center, restaurant, Police and Fire Service posts, clinic, cold storage units, lorry station, warehouses, pharmacy, offices for market management, improved sanitation system to support traders and 24-hour banking services for traders and non-traders.
In addition, he pointed out that, the market will also attract more traders as well as investors to stimulate economic activity in the town and its catchment area.
He assured residents of government’s commitment to accelerating development in the region, nothing that these interventions were intended to reduce poverty, expand opportunities and improve overall living conditions of the people.
Concerning the Agenda 111 hospital projects, President Mahama said the government was committed in completing about 35 of them, including the Assin Bereku one, this year.
He revealed that, 80 per cent of the District Assembly Common Fund has been disbursed to all districts to execute more developmental projects.
Concerning education, he said the Assin State College will also benefit from one of the 30 E-blocks to be constructed nationwide.
